Expansion of Windham's Land

Title

Expansion of Windham's Land

Description

Joshua originally leaves a ten thousand acre tract between Windham and Norwich, the modern town of Scotland, to his children. After a court battle between Owaneco and Joshua's son Abimileck, the latter takes possession of the tract and sells it to John Clark and Thomas Buckingham in 1698. Crane and Huntingdon then purchases it on behalf of Windham's proprietors. In 1700, Reverend Whiting and Jonathan Crane divide the tract into shares and sell it to prospective settlers.
