Businessmen Abraham Corn, Max Stein, Nathan Stein, and Max Goldstein who worked for Domestic Silk Company in New York City's Garment District are 'lured' to Willimantic by $12,000 grant. They form three companies, Willimantic Silk, Corn Spinning, and Kobe Weaving in vacant mills on Bridge Street.
