Meanwhile, Danny Dunn kept himself very busy within the community. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of the Hibernians (an Irish Catholic fraternal organization), Foresters of America, Putnam Phalanx, Montgomery Hose Company No. 2 (A Predominantly Irish fire station), Court of Windham No. 97, Willimantic Conclave No. 7511, Order of the Heptasophs, Norwich Lodge No. 430 and Willimantic Lodge No. 1311 Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Grand Army of the Republic, Board of Trade, Connecticut Mayors’ Association, and Daniel O’Conner Literary Society. Dunn was also a lover of local sports, particularly baseball. Before becoming mayor, Dunn was the manager of the Willimantic Baseball Club for ten years. He was able to proudly lead the team to be, “the champion independent team of the state,” according to the Courant.
