300-foot by 160-foot lot was purchased from Samuel Chesbro for $6,500 on Pleasant Street and architectural firm Whiton & McMahon designed the building. The Armory was designed to resemble the castellated architectural style also known as the medieval castle revival style. The building has the general character of an ancient castle through its octagonal towers which rise above the ordinary level of the building, and square-headed windows which give the Armory the impression of being an impenetrable fortress. To further accentuate strength and security the Armory was placed on a terrace of stone which adds to the sheer magnitude of the building. The Armory was built with red brick and the head house was two-story and surmounted by a high parapet and a blocky tower.
