Transition Of Mill's Later Life
In 1898, the merger of the American Thread Company occurred with the Willimantic Linen Company. This resulted in the American Thread Company gaining control of Mill No. 2. The mill still maintained its work with cotton with the ever changing and evolving textile industry.
Towards the beginning of the 20th century, Mill No. 2 was mainly dependent on steam power. In 1908, a boiler house was added to support engines within the mill complex. With all these additions and changes to the mill, Mill No. 2 maintained consistent productivity with cotton into the 1980’s. Textile production came to an end in 1985 for Mill No. 2 as with the rest of the mill buildings under the American Thread Company. In today’s world, the mill has been redeveloped as the Windham Mills Business Center where a real estate firm currently takes place.
