Willimantic Landmarks Added to National Register of Historic Places

Description

In 1971, the William Jillson Stone House becomes the first Willimantic landmark put on the National Register of Historic Places, giving it protection from demolition. The Footbridge is added in 1979, followed by the Freight House and Office, as well as the Main Street District in 1982, while the Willimantic Armory is registered in 1985. The Elks Club and the American Thread Company are the latest additions to the register, added in 2005 and 2014 respectively.
