Prominent Officers
When delving into the officers of each of these societies and organizations, listed in the city directory, a pattern began to emerge. Some officers served on the boards of multiple organizations, and several were also important businessmen or politicians as well.
- Clifford D. Barrows served as an officer on five different boards. He was a former mayor of Willimantic and owned his own company, selling watches, jewelry, and photography supplies. He served in many officer positions within several masonic organizations.
- Joseph Goldsborough appeared on the board of five different organizations. Unlike Barrows, he was a painter at a contracting shop! He served in many officer positions within several masonic organizations.
- Walter E. Thompson served on four organizations. He was a machinist at Thread City and served as an officer for the Obwebetuck Lodge.
- Fred and Rachel Tilden served on four boards combined. Fred Tilden, married to Rachel, was a dealer of lumber and coal and served in many positions within differing masonic organizations. Rachel Tilden, married to Fred, was the secretary of the Radiant Chapter in Willimantic.
- Louise and Eva Goss also served on four boards combined. Louise Goss was the Historian for the Daughters of the American Revolution Anne Wood Elderkin Chapter and served as President of the Francis S. Long Woman's Relief Corps. Eva Goss was an Overseer at the Thread Mill and served as an officer for the United Order of the Golden Cross
