Willimantic actually had a lot of Masonic-based societies and organizations in 1910! It is important to note that freemasons, and their respective lodges and organizations were known mostly as fraternal orders. They started as an order for stonecutters, but eventually opened their ranks for men of all social standings. In addition to ritual ceremonies, they also performed charitable work. Some of the most prominent of these masonic-based organizations in Willimantic would be the Masonic Club, Eastern Star (women's) including a Radiant Chapter, Trinity, Olive Branch, St. John’s, Past Masters’ Association
