Public School Comittee

The committee in charge of supervising education in Willimantic included:

School-Aged Population

  Of the 10,800 people living in Willimantic, around 2,600 of them were school-aged children between the ages of 5-17 - in 1910 Conneticut, education was generally mandatory until the age of 17. In order to provide services to these children, the city of Willimantic had six schools for students to attend. 

Alternative Education

  Some children also attended a trade school that provided them an introduction into wage earning. The objective was to offer this education primarily to boys, and girls if possible, the opportunity to learn specifc wage earning trades.
